Originating from Kerala, India, this ancient practice combines combat techniques, physical culture, and spiritual wisdom, offering a holistic approach to personal development.

Historical Roots

Kalaripayattu dates back to at least the 3rd century BCE, rooted in the warrior traditions of Kerala. It was developed by warriors of the region to protect their land and honor, and has been refined over centuries. The art form is mentioned in early Sangam literature, highlighting its historical and cultural significance in Southern India.

01. The Practice

Characterized by dynamic movements, fluid animal postures, and an intrinsic understanding of the human body’s vital points (marmas), Kalaripayattu is not just a form of self-defense but a way of life. Practitioners use weapons like swords, shields, and spears, alongside specialized strikes and kicks. Training is rigorous, starting with an intricate mastery of body control through the physical sequence called 'Meythari', progressing to combat techniques and weapon handling.
